Broomhill FC vs Berwick Rangers

Match Report | Broomhill 2 – Berwick Rangers 0 | 07/11/2023 | The Rock

by David McIntyre

Broomhill manager Stephan Swift was expecting a response from his boys after a disappointing result at the weekend, but it took a while for the team to get going. The first 20 minutes of the game were tight, and perhaps the better chances were falling to the visitors without testing the Broom’s defensive back line and goalkeeper.

The turning point in the first half was when midfielder Joe Murphy picked the ball up in his half and drove through Berwick’s midfield and defenders before firing a low shot that Calum Antell got down to save. From this point, Murphy and his midfield partners started bossing the middle of the pitch, allowing Broomhill to dominate the game. With more than five minutes to go before halftime, Broomhill was awarded a penalty after Corey O’Donnell latched onto a long ball and was brought down inside the area. Paul Kennedy converted from the spot, not for the first time this season! Adding to his five goals this season.

In the second half, we saw a much more complete performance from Broomhill early on, and Corey O’Donnell backed that dominance by expertly finishing across Antell into the bottom corner. The play started when centre-back Ross Smith was composed enough to squeeze the ball into Kennedy who played a lovely through ball into O’Donnel’s path.

After the second for Broomhill, Berwick Rangers continued to create dangerous chances that Scullion could save comfortably. The result never seemed out of the question, and Broomhill stayed on top of the midfield battle that ultimately won them the match. This result will hopefully give the boys belief heading into the weekend’s game at home versus Celtic B.
