Broomhill FC vs Celtic B

Match Report | Broomhill 1 – Celtic B 2 | 11/11/2023 | The Rock

by David McIntyre

Broomhill started brightly, and it looked as though the unchanged side were starting the way the midweek fixture against Berwick Rangers ended. Although the Broom started brightly, they never created a solid chance, and Celtic capitalised with their first attack. Creag Little cleared the initial shot off the line, but from the resulting corner, the Celtic player sent a thunderous strike into the net.

Credit must go to Broomhill, who never let the early goal disrupt their gameplan as they continued to push and find a quick equaliser. After 18 minutes, Broomhill was rewarded as Corey O’Donnell was the fastest to pounce on a loose pass back to the Celtic’s keeper. Corey latched onto the ball and rounded Clarke in goals before slotting the ball away. His 2nd goal of the week, and Broomhill will be hoping it’s the start of a streak for him.

There wasn’t too much goalmouth action after the second goal with both sides enjoying good spells with the ball. Broomhill’s older players showed their experience to win fouls and slow the game down after Celtic had the ball for a while. Broomhill ended the half stronger as O’Donnell almost netted a second at the death.

The second half was a bit more pedestrian with neither side threatening to score, although Scullion in goals for Broomhill, did make a few good stops. If Broomhill’s goal came from a poor pass back, Celtic got their slice of fortune from a deflection landing at Celtic’s Cummings to stick in the net. Broomhill’s backline was adamant Cummings was in an offside position since they held their line well all game.

It is another match at home for Broomhill, with Stirling University the visitors on Sunday 19th.
