Match Report | Broomhill vs Civil Service Strollers | 4-2 | The Rock
by David McIntyre
Tuesday’s match between Broomhill vs Civil Service Strollers saw two teams coming into the game in quite different form. Broomhill had not won in their last four league matches. Meanwhile, Civil Service Strollers beat Bo’ness United at the weekend.
The game started cagey as both sides were looking to unlock each other’s defence as Broomhill handled the direct passing from Strollers. It took Broomhill’s full back Kirk McKnight to drive through the away team’s midfield towards the edge of the box and draw a foul that led to the opener. Paul Kennedy stuck a teasing ball into the box that defender Alfie Robinson latched onto to head the ball into the net.
The Strollers had to react and change formation to open Broomhill’s defensive line. Eventually, they equalised through Kris Amponsah who capitalised on a rare mistake from Luke Scullion. After the Strollers’ goal, the game looked to be going into half-time all square until skipper Michael Miller was brought down in the box and Broomhill were awarded a penalty. Paul Kennedy stepped up to score his second in as many matches and make it 2-1 going into half-time. Civil Service Strollers manager Gary Jardine was clearly furious with the penalty decision and received a red card before half-time for his troubles.
In the 78th minute, there was a special moment for Ciaran McPhie as he celebrated his first senior goal. It seemed that Broomhill had wrapped up the three points, but three minutes later, the visitors were given a penalty. Luke Scullion made amends for his earlier error and turned Innes Lawson’s weakly struck penalty behind for a corner.
Corey O’Donnell made it four goals this season and 4-1 on the night with an exquisite touch that allowed him to get into a one-on-one with the keeper. With the result in the bag, Broomhill switched off as Strollers got a consolation goal, and the match finished 4-2.
