Albion Rovers 2 vs Broomhill 1 | Lowland League | Reigart Stadium | 10/02/2024

After the tightly contested draw between the two clubs, Broomhill travelled to Coatbridge to face Albion Rovers. 

As they did in midweek, Broomhill started on the front foot. Corey O’Donnell managed to beat the offside trap as Kirk McKnight played a wonderful ball over the top of Albion’s defence. Unfortunately for Corey Ross Connelly in Albion’s goal was out to it quickly and made a good block with his leg. The positivity continued for Broomhill as they were reacting quickest to second balls and not giving Albion any breathing space. The midfield were playing some brilliant football starting with the captain Michael Miller, he was dictating the tempo and progressing the ball forward. Darren Miller and Paul Kennedy were spraying passes across the pitch to open up the attack and Joe Murphy was showing off his dribbling ability as well as working hard going the other way to recover the ball. However, the team were limited to few clear chances as they continued to frustrate Albion Rovers as well. 

The second half started as the second-half finished and Sam Ellis had a half chance created by Scott Roberts but the shot went wide of the net. The Rovers keeper continued his fine performance and crucially got his hand to a Corey O’Donnell header onto the post. 

Rovers took the lead after Alex McCaw completed a quick counter attack starting from their keeper. Initially, Luke Scullion was able to save the first effort but the ball fell kindly to McCaw. Three minutes later Albion doubled their lead, creating a chance from a free-kick routine. 

Broomhill never gave up and the introduction of subs saw the Broom bring a goal back thanks to Ben McCrystal, a bright cameo that returned a goal that Broomhill deserved. It was the crossbar that denied Broomhill an equaliser after a thunderous Sam Ellis strike.
