Match Report | East Stirlingshire vs Broomhill | 3-4 | Falkirk Community Stadium
by David McIntyre
This was a massive match for Broomhill on the road to add to their convincing win away from last
weekend and gain another 3 points that would push them higher up the league and build
momentum ahead of a huge Scottish Cup weekend.
The match started frantically with neither team taking control of the match, and after 11 minutes,
the Shire scored after capitalising on a mistake that allowed the home team an easy goal. However,
going down so early in the match didn’t falter Broomhill’s game plan, and within four minutes, Max
Wright levelled the game. An excellent long ball from the goalkeeper Scullion was played into the
path of Scott Roberts, who knocked it towards Wright as he scored his 3rd goal in two matches.
Going into half time it seemed to be a matter of time before Broomhill scored again.
Into the second half, East Stirlingshire took a firm grip of the match and started to cause the
Broomhill defence continuous problems after 63 minutes were leading 3-1, and it looked as though
Broomhill’s poor away form was going to continue.
Manager Stephen Swift threw all five substitutes on before the 68th minute to change the match.
His faith was repaid when Ally McColm made an instant impact scoring after only being on the pitch
for a matter of minutes to change the outlook of the match. The Shire looked to have wrapped
things up when they scored from a corner kick, only for it to get ruled out. This sparked Broomhill
into an attack, and in the 81st minute, Ally McColm got his second of the day levelling, the match
with less than 10 minutes to play.
Having been down 3-1, Broomhill might have taken the point and called it a day, but the substitute
Ally McColm had other ideas as he followed in on a shot that hit the post and completed his hat-
trick. A massive moment for him as he looks to gain a place in the first-team having been out with
injuries from the start of the season, particularly as Broomhill travel to Beith Juniors for their
Scottish Cup tie next weekend.
