Broomhill 1 vs Albion Rovers 1 | Lowland League | The Rock
After a weekend off, Broomhill returned to The Rock for the Lowland League fixture with Albion Rovers, the first of a double-header. Manager Stephen Swift wanted his young players to stand up and learn from their mistakes in previous matches. The Broom started the game positively as Paul Kennedy hit a shot on target in the opening minutes. Broomhill was well-organised, with Joe Murphy and captain Michael Miller operating Broomhill’s midfield effectively.
Broomhill took the lead after 16 minutes when Scott Roberts was allowed to run down the right-hand side of the pitch before cutting in and laying the ball off to Paul Kennedy. He steadied himself before placing the ball across the face of the goal and into the bottom corner.
Albion Rovers grew into the game after Broomhill took the lead, with both teams creating chances. Broomhill’s backline remained solid and limited Albion’s clear-cut chances to a minimum. Scott Roberts forced a good stop from Rovers goalkeeper Ross Connelly when he aimed for the near post. Scullion also made a good save just before the break to give Broomhill a well-deserved lead into half-time.
Albion Rovers came out fighting in the second half and penned Broomhill in their half. Although Rovers started stronger, Broomhill created the first big chance of the second half, but neither Paul Kennedy nor Corey O’Donnell could connect with Scott Roberts’ cross.
It could have been a different result had the ball found the net because a few minutes later, Albion Rovers got a goal back to equalise. The match continued to be free-flowing and could have gone either way before full-time. Broomhill will be disappointed not to have walked away with all three points but will be encouraged with their performance.
