Match Report | Hearts B vs Broomhill | Ainslie Park

by David McIntyre

For this weekend’s match Broomhill travelled to Ainslie Park to face Hearts B.

The opening 15 minutes of the match were even with some good football on display that you might expect from two teams that like to play out from the back.

Broomhill did have the better chances from set-pieces, and a couple of times forwards Ciaran McPhie and Corey O’Donnell found themselves in front of goal, but as the old saying goes, you have to take your chances… especially while you are in the ascendancy!

Ultimately, Broomhill would regret not finishing one of their chances as Hearts B changed the dynamic of the match by taking the lead in the seventeenth minute after James Wilson was picked out by a fantastic ball from Macaulay Tait.

After the opener, the hosts grew into the game and capitalised as they doubled their lead. Both goals were well worked, and it was obvious that the passages of play came from the Premiership club’s academy training ground.

Just as the match seemed to be getting out of reach for the Broom, Ciaran McPhie pulled one back after an excellent finish left Hearts B goalkeeper McFarlane with no chance to save the strike. McPhie then assisted O’Donnell for the equaliser ten minutes into the second half to set-up an exciting finale.

After conceding a sucker-punch goal just after the hour mark, Broomhill continued to push on to grab another equaliser, and if it had not been for the woodwork and a dubious offside decision, the team might have been leaving Edinburgh with a point.
